Currently, the facility has four instruments, a bench top analyzer (FACScan),
a high-speed cell sorter (MoFlo), a FC500 dual laser analyzer, and a LSR II four laser analyzer.
FACScan- The
Becton Dickinson FACScan is a user friendly, single laser analyzer, capable of detecting up to
three fluorescent signals (FL1, FL2 and FL3), two physical signals (FSC and SSC)
and two electronic signals (Area and Width). The FACScan runs off of a Macintosh
computer, using CellQuest to acquire and analyze data, as well as ModFit to
analyze DNA data. The FACScan is available to everyone from 8:30-5:30 Mon-Fri,
and to those who have an access card, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. To get an
access card, contact John Tigges. To schedule time on
the FACScan, please go to the online schedule.
MoFlo- The MoFlo is manufactured by
Cytomation,
and is a high speed,
multi-laser cell sorter, capable of sorting cells at speeds of 30,000
cells/second, with great accuracy and recovery. The MoFlo has three lasers
(Argon, HeNe and a UV), which are capable of exciting many different
fluorochromes. With Cytomation’s new digital electronics, we have the ability
to analyze up to 6 different colors at one time. The MoFlo is solely operated by
a trained user. Normal operating hours for the MoFlo are Mon-Fri, 9-4, although
special arrangements can be accommodated. To set up time for a sort, please
contact John Tigges.
FC500 - The Beckman Coulter
FC500 is designed for performance and simplicity. Dual lasers allow for more antibody choices
and the ability to analyze more antibodies per tube (up to 5-color analysis). The FC500 runs
off of Windows and uses RXP software. This provides better workflow efficiency for many users.
The FC500 is available Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM to all users, and for those with an
access card, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. To gain access please contact
John Tigges at the Flow Facility. To schedule
and appointment on the FC500, please use the
online calendar.
LSR II-The Becton Dickinson LSR II is a four
laser (blue/red/violet/uv), ten parameter system. This allows for numerous antibody combinations and
more precise analysis. The LSR II runs off of Windows XP and uses Diva software. This allows for
ease of use and data transfer. The LSR II is available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week for those users who
have been trained. To gain access please contact John
Tigges at the flow facility. To schedule an appointment on the LSR II, please use the
online calendar.
