Introduction
Medical encounters with midlife women provide opportunities not only to address issues pertaining to the menopausal transition, but also to take stock of overall health status and focus on prevention of diseases that are prevalent in postmenopausal women. In order to make rational decisions about health maintenance, women need to be aware of the diseases they are at risk for developing, the early detection methods available to screen for these diseases, and the benefits and harms of primary preventive options.
