Re: Grant Submission Signature Requirement
You will soon begin to receive email notifications pertaining to a requirement involved in all NIH grant submissions. Per NIH Policy released on April 7, 2006, PI signature is not required to accompany the submitted application. Rather NIH has
implemented a compliance code whereby each institution must obtain written assurance from the PI prior to application submission. To meet this requirement, BIDMC has instated an electronic signature process similar to that used for our Effort
Reporting System which will take effect on December 11, 2007.
Upon receipt of an email stating: “Grant Submission Signature Notice – Prior to Submission”, you will have already completed compiling the application; this remaining step requires that you agree to the compliance requirements and provide
electronic signature attesting to this, thus allowing BIDMC to uphold the NIH compliance requirement. You will be provided with two options: you may either “esign this report” or state that “application will not be submitted”. This new electronic
process will eliminate the need for hard copy, scanned, or faxed signatures. It will be used for both new and non-competing applications.
The email notice will contain specific instructions for logging in and completing the process; information or assistance can be also obtained from your Department Research Administrator, the Office of Sponsored Programs, or Academic Computing.
This process may also be used for non-NIH applications. We anticipate that this process will be convenient and efficient, providing a straightforward tool with which to manage application submissions. We welcome your questions and comments.
Thank you very much for participating in our continued efforts to maintain excellence in grants management. A list of FAQs has been issued to answer some inquiries regarding this process.
