Adobe Reader installer is a scripted installation package that is interactive and prompts the user to install additional software. 

Mac and PC Instructions:

The link will prompt you to specify Operating System, Version and Language (Click Continue).

Select Reader 8.1.2 only (PC Users: un-select Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition ) (Click Download Adobe Reader)

PC Users:

Un-select the Free Google Toolbar (Click Download)

Your browser may show a gold bar at the top with a prompt to install an add-on, click and select "Install ActiveX Control"

A browser pop-up security warning box may appear for Adobe Reader with options to Install or Don't Install; select Install

A download manager window will appear with progress bar. The process will take several minutes to complete

The process should complete with a message that Adobe Reader Setup completed successfully (click OK)

Mac Users:

Your Download window should appear with AdbeRdr8xxxx.dmg at the bottom of the list.

Double click to open this file and see the Adobe Reader 8 Installer - Double click the icon to start install

You may see a "application downloaded from the Internet" warning message (Click Open)

An Adobe Reader Setup window will appear while the product is being installed

An Adobe Reader is not configured to be the default application notice should appear (Click Yes)

Grants.Gov PDF Package Notes:

Grants.Gov has added some intelligence to the PDF application packages to help users ensure that they are using the correct version of Adobe Reader when completing a package.  A test package with the same logic added can be found at:

http://www07.grants.gov/applicants/AdobeVersioningTestOnly.jsp

Warning: Users are able to install multiple versions of Adobe Reader and Acrobat Writer on their machines.  This is NOT recommended due to the logic associated with the Adobe products.  If you have problems with your PDF package please consult:

BIDMC is providing a Metaframe version of Adobe Reader 8.1.2 and Adobe Writer 8.1.2 to aide investigators in completing Grants.Gov PDF packages from any machine or location.  These Metaframe sessions will allow researchers to connect from external locations and complete packages found in the R:\eSubmission folder.  The PDF Writer version can be used to convert Word or other word processing documents to PDF format for attaching to your submission package.
