Major Research Theme
| My research is focused on basic science and application development for hyperpolarized magnetic resonance imaging. Hyperpolarization is an emerging technology that enhances the sensitivity of MRI by a factor of 10,000 or more. This enhanced sensitivity makes it possible to perform real-time pathway-specific metabolic imaging of substrate molecules such as pyruvate, choline, glutamine, and malate, to name a few. We are currently developing techniques for metabolic imaging of cancer that may yield new tools for diagnosis and treatment monitoring. In addition, we are developing novel techniques for preparing hyperpolarized contrast media based on parahydrogen-induced polarization and studying quantum-mechanical approaches to extending the lifetime of the hyperpolarized signal enhancement. |
