Major Research Theme
My work is in the field of complex systems in biomedicine. This work includes the study of life-threatening cardiac diseases (congestive heart failure and sudden cardiac arrest), neurological pathologies related to gait disorders and seizures, and the frailty syndrome. My work is at the interdisciplinary crossroads of contemporary physics, bioengineering, physiology, biology and clinical medicine.  My colleagues and I have introduced new computational methods to probe the multiscale complexity of healthy systems and their breakdown with aging and disease. A major goal is to enhance diagnostics and risk stratification and to develop non-invasive approaches to forecasting potentially catastrophic events before they occur (anticipatory medicine).
