Major Research Theme
The research in my lab examines peripheral mechanisms of headache. We investigate neuronal and immune mechanisms that play a role in promoting the activation of sensory neurons that innervate the intracranial meninges. Current projects examine: 1) the mechanisms through which the migraine trigger nitroglycerin modulates the activity and sensitivity of meningeal nociceptors, 2) the mechanisms by which immune cells, especially mast cells interact with, and modulate the activity of meningeal nociceptors and 3) the effect of ovarian hormones on the meninges and their nociceptive innervation.
