Major Research Theme
To understand the physiological mechanisms underlying  respiratory sensations with a particular emphasis on the sensations grouped under the term dyspnea.
To increase our understanding of the language used by individuals to characterize respiratory sensations.
To understand perceptual differences among individuals with respect to respiratory sensations.

Major Collaborative Activities
I work with Dr. Robert Banzett and Dr. Carl O'Donnell on research related to the physiology of respiratory sensations. The laboratory work is supported by NIH funding (RO1) with collaborations that include Drs. Mark Parshall  and Paula Meek at the University of New Mexico, and Dr. Lewis Adams from Brisbane, Australia.
