Major Research Theme

Our research examines the intrinsic organization and mechanisms of plasticity in the spinal dorsal horn, the initial relay area in the central nervous system for sensory signalling of painful stimuli. Our research also includes the medullary dorsal horn, the analogous central relay for facial pain and headache. One major line of investigation employs the technique of laser scanning photostimulation to determine the spatial organization of intrinsic excitatory and inhibitory connections within the dorsal horn involved in nociceptive processing. |
