Major Research Theme
The Division of Immunology is a basic science research division that works with academic physicians in subspecialties to study primary immunodeficiencies, the role of innate and adaptive immunology in the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders (e.g, lupus and inflammatory bowel disease). Researchers in the Division, employing the latest advances in genetic research, are investigating at the most basic levels the mechanisms of signal transduction initiated upon engagement of a series of distinct immune receptors. Some of their discoveries have proven to be directly applicable to the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.

Specific Interests are:
1. Pathogenesis of the X-linked Lympho-Proliferative disease syndrome.
2. The SLAM and SLAM Gene Familes control innate and adaptive immune responses to viruses and bacteria.
3. Studies of the pathogenesis of experimental Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
4. Role of the SLAM family genes in experimental SLE.
